The doors swing open for five full days on New Year’s Day to thousands of enthusiastic car-buying consumers. There just aren’t too many places where people can go to experience nearly everything our industry has to offer. This is what makes the auto show experience such a fun annual trek. Once again, the entire San Diego Convention Center will be transformed into an enormous automotive showroom filled with polished new products. Granted, there are several automakers that will not be present, which is not a slight to the San Diego market as they are absent from many shows around the country. But Cadillac and Genesis have returned as they recognize the value of San Diego consumers and in the marketing power of auto shows. The popular ride and drives are returning and will be conducted in front of and behind the convention center. Along with Camp Jeep inside, there are going to bemultiple experiential oppor- tunities to educate and entertain visitors. Marketing surveys further prove the power of auto shows. Fully 46% of attendees last year indicated their intention to purchase a new vehicle within 12 months, and 70% reported the auto show influenced their decision. NCDA officers Jasen Powell, Vincent Castro, Richard Newendyke and I recently participated in all-day meetings with sales teams from San Diego area radio and television stations. Their ongoing support and unbridled enthusiasm for the show was apparent during our lively and informative discussions. Comprehensive sales, marketing and promotion proposals are being submitted for review to maximize coverage. Additionally, our PR team has met with news directors to review story ideas and opportunities to capitalize on the tremendous amount of news coverage each station can provide leading up to and throughout the show. We hope you will enjoy the auto show and refer your customers to visit. It is, after all, our auto- motive Disneyland. It is a privilege to serve as board chair. And as always, please feel free to reachout anytime. With Courtesy, Mark Gruwell Chairman
