T he 2019 San Diego International Auto Show was another great success! This event is always an exciting time for us here in the office as we produce this event in house. Thanks to all of our staff for another great effort for a Successful show. And a huge thank you to our Auto Show Chairman, Richard Newendyke for being the voice and face of our show. He spent endless hours at the show doing interviews, some of which began at 4:00 a.m. and others at 9:00 p.m. Thank you Richard! Job well done! Change is in the air………2019 looks like it will be an interesting year with 100 - 150 new electrified vehicles coming out in the next 18 months. Dealers will be expected to sell these new vehicles to a population that is not all that excited about buying them. Manufacturers are counting on Auto Shows across the country to be the place where most people will see them, touch them and drive them. Your Association will again pay for your dues to both the State Association and the National Association. Keep inmind that the dues you pay to us does not even compare to the amount we pay out to those other Associations. We continue to do this so that we know you are up to date on issues from all levels including Local, State and National. The California Legislature is now back in session. Keep an eye out for any new developments with regard to Dealer Specific Legislation that might be on the horizon. San Diego is home to probably the two most powerful and influential Legislators in Sacramento. Toni Atkins is the President of the Senate, and Lorena Gonzales Fletcher is the Chairman of the powerful Assembly Appropriations Committee. We have great relationships with both of them, and you may be called upon to contact themor other San Diego Legislators to express your concerns about bills that might have an effect on your dealership. Your Association headquarters continues to be the place to meet. Almost every Dealer group is now meeting here. In addition, many of the Manufacturers are doing training here on a regular basis. With 6 different meeting rooms occupying over 25,000 square feet of space we sometimes have over 100 cars parked outside, and several meetings at the same time. Recently we updated the meeting rooms with new and current Audio Video systems. Call us to book your dealer meetings. Finally, I want to take the time to thank all of our members for continuing to support the Association through your membership. Please let us know if there is anything you want to see us do that we are not doing now. Please feel free to make a suggestion on a new program or training. We are always open to hearing your opinion.
