Itwasmore than20 years ago when the board of directors decided to offer sales training to new hires and prospective salespeople for new car dealers in San Diego County and I’ve had the privilege of seeing the program grow and evolve into its current form. We’ve trained thousands ofmen andwomen since then, withmany of thembecoming topperformers and rising through the ranks of dealerships throughout the county. Be sure to read the full story about the CSTA is this issue. Of course trainingdoesn’t stop at the entry level, andwe’ve embarkedon a newsales training initiative to ensure our dealer members are maximizing sales opportunities in this digital age. Later this month we’ll be hosting our first Internet Sales Training and Digital Success Workshop for anyone involved in thedigital sales process. We look forward to expanding this training tooffer workshops throughout the year. Look for a report on this training program in a future issue. In July we attended the Auto Shows of North America Conference in Colorado where we met with keymanufacturers, contractors and agencies to discuss auto show trends and future opportunities, as well as plans for this year’s SanDiego International Auto Show.We had invaluable interactionswithour partners and we are anxious to implement our plans for another fantastic show. The San Diego Auto Show remains a 5-day show this year, taking place December 28-January 1. Once again we will close on a Monday to take advantage of the excellent NewYear’s Day crowds. On the vehicle sales front, while we’re experiencing a predicted dip in year-to-date new vehicle sales through July, San Diego continues to outpace the nation, bolstered by impressive light truck and SUV sales. AutoOutlook’s annual forecast for 2017 SanDiegoCounty new retail light vehicle registrations is 158,750units, down just slightly from2016, andstill aheadof every year from2009 to2014byat least 8%. I hope youall hadagreat summer andwe look forward toaproductive andprofitable4thquarter. Sincerely, Dean Mansfield
