What do you think makes the San Diego County automotive market different than other markets around the state? I’m not sure that it is any different to the hyper competitive markets throughout the State. San Diego County is subject to pump in sales from adjoining markets with every brand, but notably more with luxury franchises. Themarketmay be a little unique because of its geographic location. It is somewhat “isolated”given Mexico to the South, Desert to the East, Camp Pendleton to the North and the Pacific Ocean to the West. Tell us about the civic or charitable organizations you are involved in. I’m involved with UCSD, School of Global Policy and Strategy International Advisory Board as well as UCSD’s Chancellor’s Associate, Scripps Health Foundation President’s Council, The Institute of the Americas, and Mexico Business Center Advisory Board to name a few. Charitable orga- nizations include Memorial Sloane-Kettering Cancer Center, City of Hope Cancer Center, Burn Institute, Scripps Foundation, Rady Children’s Hospital, Mexican Cultural Center, Anti-Defamation League, Jewish Family Service, Alpha Project for the Homeless, Challenged Athletes Foundation. What are your thoughts on being selected as a TIME Dealer Nominee? I am extremely honored to be nominated for such a prestigious award in the automotive industry and humbled by this once in a lifetime experience. What do you think makes membership in the NCDA beneficial? The organization provides support on regulatory and other matters. It’s a great source of information, and it provides an opportunity to network with peers and gain different insights into market and regulatory changes. Describe your all-time favorite vehicle (it can be one you’ve owned, or something on your wish list). And what are you driving today? I have driven a variety of vehicles within the Sunroad brands (BMW, Hyundai, Subaru, Infiniti, Ford, Kia, Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep, Ram, Honda, Toyota) and enjoy all of them. I’m currently driving a BMW sedan and Subaru SUV. Tell us about your family . I have 3 wonderful and talented children that I’m very proud of and my greatest joy is spending as much time as I can with my 9 grandchildren. It also brings me much joy and I’m very proud to have my 2 sons working alongside me in business every day. What’s your favorite way to spend your free time? Do you have any unusual hobbies? I enjoy traveling, golfing, reading and family time.
