10 San Diego Dealer Tell us how you got into the automotive business. The automotive business is really a busi- ness about the AmericanDream. For me, it truly is. I was not born in the United States. I moved here as an adult with two small kids, looking for better opportunities. I bought my first dealership in San Diego in 1984, which was Pacific Honda, a Ford store the next year, and we have grown since then to over 1000 employees, 13 makes, and 12 sales points in the United States and Mexico. Do you have family in the business? Yes, my two sons both serve as executives at Sunroad. What’s the most rewarding part of your career? I ammost proud of having my two sons join me in the business. I’m also honored to be awarded two neighboring cross-border open points by Toyota: Chula Vista and Tijuana. Similarly, Honda invited us to open a dealership inMexico to help transplant US best practices to their growing Mexico market. Also knowing that over 1000 families take home a pay- check working at Sunroad is really one of the most rewarding results for me.
