While families are winding down vacations and kids are going back to school, the automo- tive industry turns its focus to 4th quarter and closing out the year with great success. As you will see in this issue’s Auto Outlook Report, sales trends remain on the upswing and are predicted to remain strong through year-end. I would also like to acknowledge our TIME Quality Dealer Award nominee, Jim Crowley. Jim was recognized at the NADA Convention and has been a long-time advocate of the New Car Dealers Association and our dealer commu- nity. I thank him for his continued service and congratulate him on one of the highest honors in the automotive industry. These past months, the NCDA has been busy with our annual events including our golf tournament and Annual Meeting & Luncheon. Those who attended our annual meeting and luncheon event were treated to a wonderful afternoon featuring keynote speaker, Karl Rove. Karl couldn’t have been more gracious with his time and I know all who attended enjoyed his relevant thoughts and tongue and cheek stories about his days as Deputy Chief of Staff and Senior Advisor to President GeorgeW. Bush. I would also like to thank Mayor Kevin Falcouner for taking time out of his busy schedule to drop by and address the audience. We rounded out the summer with a trip to the Auto Shows of North America Conference in Canada. While there, we met with key manufac- turers, agencies and production houses to dis- cuss plans for this year’s San Diego International Auto Show.We received great feedback fromour partners and are anxious to implement our roll out plans for another fantastic show. Of note, the San Diego Auto Show will return to a 5-day show, December 29-January 2nd. This is unique in that the show will close on a Monday to take advantage of the New Year’s Day crowds and carryover holiday.
