Spring 2015 15 National Automotive Technology Competition T eam San Diego, represented by Ramona High School students Isaac Medina and Eric Leyva, placed 14th out of 29 teams at the 2015 National Automotive Technology Competition, held March 29 and 30 in New York City. This nationally recognized competition was developed in 1993 by the Greater New York Automobile Dealers Association to help curb the shortage of qualified automotive technicians and raise the level of vocational education stan- dards in the public school system. Each two-person student teammust diagnose and repair a number of pre-assigned problems under a car's hood within an allotted amount of time, in addition to taking a series of written tests prepared by the ASE. Led by instructor Mike Saavedra, Eric and Isaac were assigned a 2015 Lexus RX 350, and the team spent over 150 hours working with local master technicians to prepare for competition. The NCDA is a proud sponsor of the team, having provided critical support funding for travel expenses to attend the annual competition for several years.
