Spring 2015 11 Ford Dealer in San Diego participating, which is huge. We’re awesome competitors, but we also share the joy of selling Fords in San Diego. We’re fierce competitors but we’re also great friends. Being Chairman of the SDAA I think will help me as I go forward as Chairman of the NCDA. What inspired you to serve as a leader in the Association? The car business has been so good to me and my family, I feel it's a way to give back. What are your priorities and goals as the newNCDABoardChairman? What’s in store for NCDA in the short term and/or long term? I want to make sure there is a great future for the next generation of dealers. This can only be done by staying on top of all new government regulations that are forever changing. What is it that you’re doing at your dealership to set the standard to help other dealerships face their challenges? In our dealership, our goal is to always treat the customer right. That’s really changed from when I started in the car business. In today’s world with social media, you’d better do what’s right for the customer every single time and in the end it will protect your dealership. Maybe other dealerships will come to learn that they can be protected by doing things the most ethical way they know how to do it. Are you involved in any civic or charitable organizations? Promises2Kids is one example. Promises2Kids represents foster kids who weren’t really brought up in foster homes. I figure if anyone needs a break it’s kids without families. Describe your all-time favorite vehicle (it can be one you’ve owned, or something on your wish list). What are you driving today? I like driving all the cars, whether they be used car trade-ins that are exotic, or the Mustangs and the Super Duties. My daily driver is an F-250 Super Duty. For going fast, my kids run racecars. We like to do the performance things on the race track. Tell us about your family. I’ve been married for 22 years to my wife Michelle. I met her when I was 23 years old while working at El Cajon Ford. She had just graduated from high school and started working at the dealership a month after I did. She left after working there for a little over one year. We remained good friends and then eventually began dating, got married, and had two sons. Our oldest son PJ, which stands for Paul Junior, is 21 years old and drives racecars for a living. He has a great career job working for Fox Shocks, a company that builds shocks for multiple vehicles, frombicycles to racecars. He works on testing and engineering for them in their newly developing circle track shock department. He has excelled in stock car racing andmakes me proud every day with his work ethic – workingmany long days and nights at the shop and then continuing with maintaining his car for the next race. Our youngest son, Justin, is currently a security guard at the dealership and is getting ready to go to San Diego State University. I’m really proud of him, he’s an honor student with a 4.3 GPA all through high school and just and all around great kid. What is your favorite way to spend your free time? Any unusual hobbies? I have really enjoyed racing and working on the racecars with my kids for the last 15 years. Both of our sons became involved in racing when they were very young. First just watchingme race, then racing themselves in quarter midgets. It takes a lot of time preparing the cars, repairing the cars and getting everything and everyone ready for each weekend of racing. Many of my favorite times have been during those times of racing and getting ready for the next race. I also enjoy traveling with my wife, Michelle, (besides to the race tracks) we have been lucky to enjoy many vacations both in and outside of the United States and we have many great memories made in places around the world.
