10 San Diego Dealer Register Now for Dealer Day T he threat of unrealistic recall reform bills and ballot measures is mounting and new car dealers are under attack. WE NEED YOUR HELP at Dealer Day to remind state legislators of your role in helping consumers remedy recalls and to convince them that CNCDA’s recall reform bill is worthy of their support. CNCDA is sponsoring AB287 to help you reduce customer confusion about the safety of their vehicles. No one is better positioned than new car dealers to lead this effort to craft a solution to a runaway recall system that last year alone accounted for over 60-million recalls. By doing so, we believe we will help fashion sound policy that is pro-consumer, pro-dealer and pro-common sense. Over the past two years, CNCDA, with the significant help of dealers who attended Dealer Day, has stopped so-called consumer advocates’ efforts to pass poorly drafted bills and initiative measures that exacerbate recall problems, rather than solve them. The time has come for us to take the lead on this issue and drive toward a responsible solution here in California. While we are still working on the exact details of the legislation with a number of stakeholders and lawmakers, the end goal is to craft a solution that will not only increase disclosure for consumers and improve safety, but also will provide additional consumer and franchise protections to ensure that consumers and dealers aren’t stuck footing the bill for fixing manufacturer issues.
