In total, 27 (NATEF/ AYES) automotive students from the following schools: Madison, Morse, Crawford, Mira Mesa, and Claremont were provided the opportunity to observe industry professionals and gain insight on the career options available to them in the automotive industry. Participating dealerships included: City Chevrolet, Kearny Mesa Toyota, Kearny Person Ford, Mossy Collision National City, Mossy Honda, Mossy Toyota Collision Center, Mossy Nissan, Mossy Ford, and Mossy Toyota. Five of our automotive programs follow the NATEF model, which is nationally recognized by the automotive industry and (ASE) Auto Ser- vice excellence industry education alliance. The curriculum exposes students to automotive careers and encourages internships and job shadows. Statistics show there is a huge shortage of highly skilled and profes- sionally trained automotive technicians. As the demand increases, so does the need for qualified technicians. The dealerships that partici- pated in the Job Shadow realize that San Diego Unified School District is one of the leaders in educating and preparing students for careers that are in high demand, that require high skills, and are considered high wage.
