I had the privilege of knowing Joe Drew for close to 25 years. During that time he served on the Board of the New Car Dealers Association and was the recipient of the TIME Magazine Quality Dealer Award in 1989. Joe founded the San Diego Automotive Museum in Balboa Park and I had the pleasure of serving alongside of him as a Board member for the museum for many years. For those of us who knew Joe, know that he will be remembered as a generous, caring husband, father and friend. My condolences to his family as he will bemissed by all. Myself and several dealers recently traveled to Sacramento for Dealer Day. I was pleased to see the turnout from our dealer members as we spent the day meeting with various Assembly members and Senators. If you were unable to attend Dealer Day, I strongly recommend you take time tomeet your respective representatives from your districts. With the upcoming elections it is important these officials understand the importance of your business to the region’s economy and the important role your dealer- ship plays in their districts short-and-long-term economic health. I would also like to personally invite you to our upcoming New Car Dealers Association Annual Meeting & Luncheon on Thursday, June 19th at the Hyatt Regency La Jolla. Due to the possible security concerns, we are unable to provide the name of the luncheon speaker at this time, but I can tell you the speaker is a renowned author and war hero and this is an event not to be missed! Space is limited, so please make sure you return your registration information to the NCDA offices as soon as possible. Lastly, as J.P Paynter acknowledged in his letter, this will be his final month of serving as the New Car Dealers Association’s Chairman of the Board. J.P. has been a fantastic Chairman providing valuable insight and leadership this past year. We look forward to working with him as our incoming Auto Show Chairman, where I am certain he will continue to provide great guidance.
