4 San Diego Dealer Dear Dealer Members, I n just a few short weeks, a newyear begins and the San Diego Convention Center once again becomes home to the San Diego International Auto Show—January 1-5. The New Car Dealers Association (NCDA) staff has been planning this year’s show for the better part of the last 10 months and I strongly encourage every dealer to make time to come down and see how the brand(s) you sell are represented. The number one reason for the Auto Show is to stimulate auto sales at our dealerships at a time when most consumers have been focused on holiday shopping. With the show expanded to five days and the shift into the first week of January, we expect to see large crowds that we hope translate into sales in our stores. I believe 2013 was a solid year for the San Diego automotivemarket. County new retail reg- istrations were up 11.2% for the first ninemonths of the year versus a year earlier, above the 8.8% uptick in the National Market. As you will see in the Auto Outlook section of this month’s magazine, county new retail light registrations are predicted to increase 7.5% from 2013 to 2014 with this year’s annual increase pegged at 10.6%. I think we can all agree, those are very encouraging figures heading into the New Year. This is also a time of year when the spirit of giving comes to the forefront. As Chairman of the NCDA, I have had the pleasure of being part of some fantastic philanthropic efforts—most recently our annual donation to Meals-On- Wheels. For the 15th year in a row, the New Car Dealers Association has provided Thanksgiving meals for over 2500 homebound seniors and to date has provided over $150,000 to Meals- On-Wheels and their clients. It was an honor to once again present a check for this very special program that benefits our community.
