4 San Diego Dealer Dear Dealer Members, A s the summer comes to a close, our indus- try starts preparing for what we hope will be a busy and prosperous fourth quarter. We have continued to see steady growth in the market, and I am encouraged by the latest San DiegoOutlook figures that are highlighted in this issue. Our county continues to show substantial gains in almost every sector and much greater results than the U.S. as a whole. Four years into our recovery we continue to see increases in new vehicle registrations. We ended the 2nd quarter with registrations up 14.8% over Q2 2012 and 12.7% over YTD 2012. New vehicle sales have increased 63% in just the past 3 years. Looking back to 2009, new vehicle sales in San Diego plummeted to just under 78,000 vehicles; yet in the first six months of 2013 we’ve already delivered 69,000 new vehicles. The San Diego market is predicted to increase 10.1% to about 140,000 vehicles for calendar year 2013. We haven’t seen numbers at this level in San Diego County for many years. Since my induction as Chairman of the Board in June, I’ve been able to spend valuable time with the staff of the NewCar Dealers Association and to be as proactive as possible during my tenure. I want to remind each of you of the great value that membership in the NCDA brings to our dealer community and how these benefits play such a key role in the success of our busi- ness. Those benefits include State and National representation. It is critical that our industry is well represented when it comes to legislation that directly affects our interests and viewpoints. Our Political Action Committee is essential when key ballot measures are proposed that impact dealer operations. The NCDA works daily on our behalf dealing with these issues, which I find to be of great benefit to our dealer community. I’m looking forward to beingmore involved in the planningof this year’s SanDiego International Auto Show and I’m confident we’ll see great suc- cess with this year’s event. We’re excited about the changes we’vemade to this year’s Auto Show. We’ve expanded our show, included more Ride and Drives, increased the number of days and we’re starting the show on January 1st. The NADA Conventionmoves to NewOrleans in January of 2014. If you’re planning on attend- ing, make sure you register early. I’m told that 7 of the 33 hotels are already sold out. Register for the Convention before Sept. 13th and receive a $100 discount off the onsite rate. All told, there are many reasons for auto deal- ers to feel positive again about the industry. It’s going to be a busy second half of the year. I’m confident that the New Car Dealers Association® San Diego County (NCDA) will continue to pro- vide great service to the San Diego dealer com- munity and provide us with the many valuable resources that make our industry strong and successful.
