Cross-train staff on segments of each other’s jobs. This keeps things moving efficiently on sick days or vacation days. It also can have a side benefit of increasing internal controls. 8. Sign checks only once a day. Place them in a specific in-box to be dealt with all together—except, of course, for urgent checks to a vendor or someone else who is waiting. The trick for any of these best practice ideas is implementing them. A good strategy is to highlight the ideas you want to implement, then address one at a time.
